General aims and objectives
The inter-university consortium AlmaLaurea supplies reliable data in a short time to the Governing Bodies of the universities that are part of the consortium, to the Assessment Units and to the Committees dealing with Teaching Activities and Career Guidance. These data serve as a basis for fostering all decisional processes and activity planning, with a particular attention for all training activities and services targeted at students. Moreover, AlmaLaurea operates for facilitating and creating more equal conditions for young people to access both the Italian and the international labour market.
Specific aims and objectives
ALMALAUREA is aimed at:
Facilitating and improving the access of young people to the labour market and their placing. By doing this AlmaLaurea simplifies companies' research of personnel, reducing the time gap between qualified work demand and offer.
Guaranteeing the optimisation of human resources through a steady update of data regarding the career of students holding a diploma or a degree.
Looking after all monitoring processes concerning the academic programmes chosen by students and analysing graduates' characteristics and performances, so that a direct comparison between different courses, faculties and universities is made possible.
Analysing the effectiveness of the study opportunities offered by each university.
Taking into account the professional profile that is required by Italian and foreign companies.
Analysing the effectiveness that the study opportunities offered by each university have in the labour market by monitoring the different occupational openings.
Developing a synergic relationship with high schools which is aimed at guiding students towards university and the labour market.
Promoting any activity aimed at the achievement of the above mentioned goals, both at a national and at a European level.
The tool used
The databank AlmaLaurea (www.almalaurea.it), which resulted from the combination of different kinds of data acquired at different stages, is the tool used by AlmaLaurea. The data collected can be divided into the following categories:
Official data:they are provided by the graduate's university. They regard the faculty, degree course, expected graduation mark, duration of the degree course, title of the degree thesis, name of the degree thesis supervisor and any other information requirement provided for in the university reform started during the academic year 2001-02.
Data provided by the graduand : before the end of the academic studies, e.g.:
- Self-certification containing information about military service, course attended abroad, work experiences made while studying at the university and traineeships made.
- Self-certification containing information about the languages studied, IT skills and the availability to move abroad.
Data provided by the graduate: self-certifications and self-evaluations deriving from the update operations made by graduates, who may periodically modify their curricula. These modifications mainly regard postgraduate work experiences. Graduates make their changes in the curricula directly on-line just by filling in a pre-set questionnaire.
Only part of these data constitute the databank that companies can look up: more than 100 pieces of information are part of the archive for recently graduated students, whereas more than 120 pieces of information constitute the archive for those students who have updated their curricula. The information left is available for statistical surveys, in which personal data will not be disclosed.
Services provided to universities
AlmaLaurea not only follows with interest what happens to the students both during their studies and when they start to work, but it also guarantees what follows:
The whole basic documentation collected by AlmaLaurea on its associated universities.
The databank, which was created through the collection of administrative documents, pre-degree questionnaires and documents collected through targeted phone interviews, is for each university an essential source for further investigation and analysis in addition to the analysis made by AlmaLaurea itself.Training targeted at the personnel chosen by universities for dealing with the basic documentation.
Yearly report on graduate profile.
This report is divided into the following sections: university, faculty and degree course. It takes into consideration all the students who graduated during a given year and it examines several variables, such as: the age at which a student graduates, obtained marks, graduation mark, degree taken in the time prescribed, duration of the course of studies, parents' qualification, social class, secondary school diploma and school-leaving examination mark, regular attendance, courses attended abroad, use of laboratories, traineeships or internships, time needed to write the degree thesis, assessment of the academic experiences made, language skills, IT skills, work experiences made during studies, intention to continue studies, preferred job and job sector and significant aspects of the preferred job.
The report, which is generally issued by the month of June of the year that is subsequent to the year analysed in the report itself, meets the requirements of the Assessment Units and of the Governing Bodies of the universities that are part of AlmaLaurea. Moreover, it provides career-guidance staff, secondary school students facing the choice of faculty and their families with up-to-date and reliable data.
Both an electronic and a paper version of the report are available, like all other documents, on www.almalaurea.it, where it may be compared with the reports of the past years.Yearly report on graduates' employment situation.
This report, which is divided in two sections (university and faculty), examines the employment condition of graduates after one, three and five years from the graduation. Moreover, it takes into consideration the labour market prospects and the correlation that these prospects have with the academic studies carried out.
Like the above mentioned report, this report is also available in an electronic and paper version. All documents related to www.almalaurea.it are available on www.almalaurea.it, where they may be compared with the documents of the past years.Data regarding the employment situation of PhDs who graduated from the universities that are part of the consortium are constantly updated.
An archive containing the titles of all degree thesis and PhD dissertations is also available.
Students are protected against any legal dispute arising from errors in their curricula -even from errors caused by optical reading systems- through the activation of an interactive service of control and correction of the curricula. The interaction with all associated universities is based on the data recorded by secretariats.
Graduates' curricula are checked and in case any errors are found, they are sent back to the university, so that they can be corrected.
A service for curricula updating and implementation is available.
Databank internationalisation: all curricula have an English version and the translation into other languages will be soon activated. For this reason they can be consulted by foreign companies looking for Italian graduates.
Activation of databank translation and of a support for translation according to what the university reform of 2001-02 provides for.
Reports targeted at the press, companies, professional organisations and specific information campaigns.
The management of the databank of AlmaLaurea is carried out by specific consultation counters. The advantages of this service are both the monitoring and the fostering of the relationships with companies. Moreover, 80% of the sums collected by the consultation counters are then managed by each university. In compliance to the so-called "Legge Biagi", AlmaLaurea supplies -autonomously or in association with the universities- a service of candidates' selection and pre-screening which is aimed at reducing the time that companies need to find their personnel.
AlmaLaurea gives the opportunity to post on the web site job advertisements aimed at the selection of the personnel to be hired by universities.
Finally, it gives the opportunity to bring all web site visitors near to the different kinds of courses promoted by each university, such as: second level degree courses, postgraduate courses, specialisation schools, first level master's degree courses, second level master's degree courses, PhD degree courses.
Services provided to students and graduates
Students are assigned a username and a password which are unlimitedly valid.
Students' curricula are published on the web site, so that they can be consulted by companies looking for a graduate to hire.
Curricula are published in Italian and in English and the translation into other languages will be soon activated. This is aimed at giving more opportunities to the Italian graduates to find a job abroad, since in this way they can get in touch with many foreign companies that use the services provided by AlmaLaurea to find qualified personnel among Italian graduates.
A specific service aimed at checking and correcting curricula and all official documents that lie within the competence of each university is also available.
A service for curricula updating and implementation is available. Graduates can access their on-line curricula whenever they want to implement, update or modify them with new information, such as work experiences, postgraduate courses, master's degree courses etc.
Specific research processes enable web site visitors to look for students who graduated before or after the university reform.
Job offers posted by companies on AlmaLaurea web site can be consulted.
A specific on-line service has the function to answer to job advertisements posted by companies on www.almalaurea.it by sending them the on-line curriculum immediately.
The study opportunities that are available after the first level degree both in Italy and abroad can be consulted on-line within the master section of the web site. These study opportunities include: second level degree courses, postgraduate courses, specialisation schools, first level master's degree courses, second level master's degree courses, PhD degree courses.
All documents in which graduates' performances are certified are available for obtaining a foreign scholarship or to participate to competitions.
The yearly report on graduates' profile is available on www.almalaurea.it. Information about graduates' performances has been classified here according to several factors. Graduates can be compared on the basis of several variables, such as graduation date, university, faculty and degree course.
The yearly report on graduates' employment conditions is also available on www.almalaurea.it. It examines graduates' employment condition after one, three and five years from the graduation. Moreover, it takes into consideration labour market prospects and the correlation that these prospects have with the academic studies carried out. These data can be compared on the basis of several variables, such as graduation date, university and faculty.
AlmaLaurea also launches promotional campaigns, which are targeted at private and public companies or at offices, both in Italy and abroad.
Information on issues related to the labour world and university is available in the NEWS section of the web site.
Services to be activated:
Consulting in labour law and fiscal law.
Info point on how to find a job abroad and how to complete the course of studies abroad.
Services targeted at the labour market
AlmaLaurea offers a databank that collects information both on graduates having a long work experience and on newly graduated students. This is a unique databank, since it collects data that have been certified by the different universities taking part to the consortium. This databank, which can be consulted on-line from 1996, receives about 150,000 curricula per year (both in Italian and in English) and on 22/02/2012 the total number of curricula amounted to more than 1,620,000 units.
- AlmaLaurea provides all graduated students with 110 pieces of information that were recorded before the conclusion of the course of studies.
- The available information also includes any update carried out by graduates, which mainly regard work experience made after the graduation.AlmaLaurea Company Service is open on 5 five days per week and for 7 hours per day. The office helps to consult the databank and to search and select graduates' profiles.
AlmaScelta/MyAlmaLaurea is an on-line service that is tailor-made for companies looking for graduates to hire. Companies may use this service for:
- selecting the graduate to hire out of more than 1,620,000 Italian universities;
- posting job/internship offers;
- saving the research made, so that it can be available in the future;
- registering the most interesting candidates' profiles;
- on-line consulting and managing of the curricula they receive in answer to job offers;
- subscribing to the databank in order to receive as soon as possible a CV template to be downloaded."Alert Master" and "Job offer Alert": under request of companies or any other organisation AlmaLaurea sends an email to those candidates who have been selected through the databank. Alerts may contain work offers, information on master's degrees, postgraduate courses and second-level degree courses offered by universities or training organisations. They may also report that a new job/internship advertisement has been recently posted on the web site of AlmaLaurea.
Candidates pre-screening service: in order to reduce the time that companies need to find their personnel, AlmaLaurea selects a small predefined number of candidates found in the databank and/or through a job advertisement posted in the web site.
AlmaLaurea consultation counters can be found in all universities that are part of the consortium and in professional associations. All services offered by these associations to their members are free.
The yearly report on graduates' profile is available on www.almalaurea.it. Information about graduates' performances has been classified here according to several factors. Information on the different students can be compared on the basis of several variables, such as graduation date, university, faculty and degree course.
Yearly report on graduates' employment situation. This report, which is available on www.almalaurea.it, examines the employment condition of graduates after one, three and five years from the graduation. These data can be compared on the basis of several variables, such as graduation date, university, faculty and degree course.
Personal data processing and use
Data are collected and elaborated in compliance with the existing legislation on personal data processing.
The AlmaLaurea consortium guarantees that data are processed in compliance with the existing legislation. At this point, see:
- REPORT FOR GRADUATES
- REPORT FOR COMPANIESEach university remains the owner of the rights on both personal and administrative data regarding its newly graduated students.
Each university may use data related to its newly graduated students, which have been collected by AlmaLaurea, for the purposes laid down by the statute of the consortium.
Membership contribution and participation sum
Joining the consortium involves a one-off payment. This membership contribution ranges between € 2.582 and € 5.165, depending on the total number of graduates of each university.
Moreover, in order to remain part of the consortium and being inserted in the databank, each university has to pay a yearly participation sum. This sum, which is established on a yearly basis by the Board of Management of AlmaLaurea, is proportionate to the total number of graduates of each university and in 2009 it amounted to € 5,96 + VAT for each graduate.
The participation sum covers all above mentioned services and the yearly report on graduate's profile. A partial financial contribution is, however, required for the yearly report on graduates' employment situation.Should any income derive from the payment of the participation sum, AlmaLaurea will then redistribute it to each university. This redistribution is proportionate to the total number of curricula inserted by each university, i.e. each university will receive a sum of money that is proportionate to the participation sum previously paid to AlmaLaurea: the more universities paid to remain in the consortium and insert their curricula in the databank, the higher will be the sum of money they receive.
