Helping companies to hire graduates
Silvano Moffa, president of the Labour Commission of the Italian Chamber of Deputies, has expressed support for the proposal submitted to the Italian Parliament. “AlmaLaurea is an instrument that cannot be relinquished".

“AlmaLaurea is a modern and advanced instrument we highly think of, since it connects graduates and companies and it may prevent the chance that Italy may become a second-rate country in the international context at the end of the crisis.” This has been asserted first in the Italian Parliament and then at the presentation of the 12th AlmaLaurea Report on graduates’ employment condition by Silvano Moffa, president of the Labour Commission of the Italian Chamber of Deputies. The deputy of the PdL (Popolo della Libertà) political party is the first signer of the agenda in which the proposal submitted by AlmaLaurea to the Government has been supported: i.e., envisaging incentives aimed at fostering the connection between the labour market and high-skilled human resources who received an academic education. “That’s a very good idea that we have favourably welcomed, since now we need more than ever a good system of databanks which may enable us to facilitate the interaction of supply and demand for labour.

What kind of added value does the AlmaLaurea databank provide?
“The advantage produced by AlmaLaurea is a very advanced analysis process, which makes it possible both to obtain further information that are fundamental for the evaluation of the performances of our graduates and universities and to have access to the CVs of millions of students. In addition to this, the AlmaLaurea system also interacts with the productive sector, which plays a key role in the innovation process and represents the real challenge of our future. Education, research, innovation and productivity: these are our priorities. To reach these goals, we need to know which role Italy will play- compared to the other international markets- after the end of the crisis. At this point, it is increasingly important to set systems of data having a high added value, like the AlmaLaurea one, which enable us to take all these opportunities".

Is AlmaLaurea from this point of view useful for helping graduates to find a job?
“Data show it clearly: 90% of the job offers that are proposed to graduates through AlmaLaurea become then a real work relationship. This means that this instrument is useful. Off course, everything can be implemented, but what scares me the most is seeing how in a country like ours, which has a lot of energy and positive initiatives, it is not possible to make the most of the resources we already have, of the concrete instruments that- as AlmaLaurea has showed us- play a decisive role".

What do you think about the project started by AlmaLaurea, that is to extend its databank model on an international scale?
“I am very pleased to know that the work of AlmaLaurea has a European and international perspective. I find extremely positive the fact that also universities are increasingly interested in the central role played by the countries of the Mediterranean area in sectors like economy and productivity. A very important step is the project that AlmaLaurea has started with Morocco. I wish that it will also be extended to Tunisia. Today our country has more than ever the task to take all the opportunities that will arise from the liberalisation of the markets in 2011, when the entire Maghrebian area will be opened to the international market.

Why are the Mediterranean areas important?
“It must be taken into account that geopolitics is now redefining its boundaries and the development assets of the economic policies in a global word that has been deeply affected by this financial crisis. The Mediterranean area is again the protagonist and the North-South relationship may make Italy stand out thanks to our excellent resources and the supply of high-skilled professionals to the labour market and the developing markets. We can play a decisive role in this sector and AlmaLaurea is the key to open this scenario".
