“The New Digital Era in Higher Education”: the contribution of AlmaLaurea
03 April 2014

The founder of AlmaLaurea, prof. Andrea Cammelli, was invited to represent AlmaLaurea at the 4th Eunis Rectors Conference “The New Digital Era in Higher Education”, held in Helsinki and Espoo on April 3-5, 2014.

In 2011 EUNIS (European University Information Systems) recognized in the AlmaLaurea system, in its organizational model and its capacity a best practice in the use of information systems in the field of higher education, giving the Consortium the EUNIS Elite Award for Excellence. It had been three years that the award was not given, and ALMALAUREA was chosen both for its annual surveys of graduates Italian - timely, complete and reliable - both for the database, which now makes available nearly two million CVs of graduands and graduates with years of experience.

EUNIS, the European University Information Systems Organization, is a non-profit organization founded in 1993. EUNIS brings together those who are responsible for the management, development and the policy for Information Technology in Higher Education in Europe. The objective of EUNIS is to contribute to the development of high quality information systems, exchange practices and cooperation between professionals and Universities IT managers at European level.

In the field of higher education is an ongoing transformation, closely linked to technologies: the online courses (Massive Open Online Courses - MOOCs) are changing learning paradigm, while cloud technologies are making old and new services available in an unprecedented way. The general context is evolving: universities must work together to save costs but, at the same time, there is also an increasing competition over the best researchers and students worldwide. We face as well with an increasing need to link universities to the outside society, exploring possible ways to improve the co-operation between universities and businesses community.

These are the topics of the Conference, which will be attended by top European experts in the field.

AlmaLaurea, represented during the Conference by Founder and Director Andrea Cammelli and by the head of Information Services Alberto Leone, was invited in order to describe the activities and initiatives of the Consortium, deepening the themes of the University Quality Assurance and graduates placement.

On March 6-7, AlmaLaurea attended as well the conference organized by EUNIS in Paris titled " Business Intelligence and Data Warehouses in European Universities". On that occasion, they discussed the results of a survey  finalized to determine the presence and the maturity level of business intelligence systems in European universities, which AlmaLaurea has actively taken part in, providing among other services the technological support for interviews collection.
